For the 8th edition, Cameron (surgery, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Baltimore) has reduced the size of the volume and focuses more strictly on the most current therapy in each area of surgery. The 272 chapters have been rewritten, almost all by new authors. Chapters are organized by parts of the body; individual chapter topics include esophageal tumors, Mallory-Weiss syndrome, refactory ascites, common bile duct stones, transplantation of the pancreas, thyroiditis, brachiocephalic reconstruction, deep venous thrombosis, nerve injuries, and electrolyte disorders. Twenty-one chapters describe various laparoscopic surgeries. Each chapter includes brief descriptions of pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, complications, outcome after surgery, among other topics. Excellent bookA must for every surgical resident and surgeon. Great for studying for the oral boards these are safe and accepted answers.Great Review for Surgical ExaminationsThose who are goinig to sit the general surgery examinations would find this book a great assistance. The book is well written and easy to read and understand. After thoroughly reading this book and a major surgical textbook e.g. Sabiston's Surgery would the chances of passing any surgical examination very high. It's an up to date reference in general surgical diagnosis & therapy. The busy general surgeon would find it a very useful soucce. This book will help other surgical specialists to keep themselves current with the most recent issues in general surgery. This book is highly recommended. Surgeon's best friendIf you only have time to read one book, this is the one. Every topic is boiled down to only the pure gold. All the useless facts that you can't remember anyway are left out. Presented in an easy to understand, easy to remember format. This is really all you need. I plan on reading every new issue when available. By the way, I've read Schwartz, Norton, Sabiston, and ACS over the past few years. All are good, but I already work long enough hours for my free time to be spent reading such lengthy texts. |
