Meyer takes all the standard approaches (pterional, orbital-frontal, etc.) and superbly illustrates them into a simple step by step manner. A chapter begins typically with basic discussion on indications and pertinent anatomy. This is followed by step by step illustrations from the skin incision to projections of various aneurysms or tumor removal. Also included are transphenoidal approaches along with percutaneous treatment for trigeminal neuralgia. Some of my favorite illustrations are the cranial base triangles (glassock's, parkinson's, etc) which are difficult to explain, but become simplistic with the excellent illustrations. Because of the book's clarity, 15 minutes of reading a chapter will make you very familiar with any of the procedures. This book is intended and suceeds in concisely providing the essential information for the neurosurgery resident. When I was a junior resident, my chief let me in on this treasure of a book. I choked on the price, but I never have regreted having this valuable resource.
