From Book News, Inc. This text approaches surgical technology by focusing on the required knowledge and cognitive skills for predicting the patient's and surgeon's needs. It assumes that the technologist must learn to think like the surgeon intraoperatively, must be well grounded in the basic sciences, and should contribute to global patient care by serving as one of several team members who monitor the surgical environment. The first nine chapters (the positive care section) cover care, aseptic principles and practice of sterile technique, the role of the surgical technologist, and environmental awareness. The next 12 chapters focus on operative procedures by surgical specialty, with a brief introduction to diagnostics preceding each of these sections. Contains many b&w illustrations.Book News, Inc.®, Portland, OR
Book Description Surgical technology educators and students previously had no choice but to rely on textbooks written for OR nurses that often contained too little information on the role of the surgical technologist and not enough of the subtle observations and nuances that come from years in the field. Until now. Surgical Technology for the Surgical Technologist is the first text for surgical technology students and faculty that is precise, focused and helpful. Information is presented in a thorough and consistent manner that encourages student learning of both the information and the process. A great start for the AST.As a student myself, I found that this book is highly readable, but oftentimes, the text and layout feels cramped as though the editors were attempting to place every single chart, picture, graph, and piece of text on as much square area for each page. Otherwise, it's been a valuable tool in helping me prepare for the field of Surgical Technology. I find that the workbook, which was required for my specific program, was often wholely unrelated to the material in the book, which is quite frustrating. Would this book be sufficient for anyone to learn the profession? Probably not by itself, but it's definitely a beginning.Great educational bookI actually work in Central Sterile Processing. I found this book very useful with the information of surgical procedures, anotomy charts , surgical instruments. Plus it is very clear on its format, easy to understand and follow. This book will answer many questions that students going for surgical technology need or simple just like me, a person who works with surgical instruments on the daily basis.Don't spend the moneyThis text is horable, there is info that is wrong. I am ST student . I would buy Alexdars it's the best book around. |
