A summary of the current knowledge of toxicity of the anesthetic agents--defining toxicity in its broadest sense as an adverse effect, whether the result of pharmacologic, toxicologic, physiologic, or other mechanism. The initial chapters provide background on the factors that impact toxicity and the ways in which the adverse effects of the anesthetics can be investigated. The subsequent chapters present and summarize anesthetic toxicity, some of which is familiar, such as nephrotoxicity and hepatotoxicity.
