Book Description

Whether it is for augmentation, liposuction, or a lift, women often go into plastic surgery without being aware of all the aspects. This book, written by a female plastic surgeon, gives an objective, knowledgeable overview of the different procedures and includes topics such as decision making, smart questions to ask, expectations, possible complications, and recovery.

From the Publisher
With remarkable clarity, precision, and depth, Dr. Jean M. Loftus, a board certified plastic surgeon, explains exactly what cosmetic plastic surgery can and cannot accomplish. Written in an inviting and understandable style, these are just some of the issues the book confronts: The hidden costs of cosmetic surgery and how to uncover them; Telltale signs that indicate you have had cosmetic surgery, and how to get your surgeon to avoid them; How to avoid everyday medications that can ruin your results or lengthen your recovery; The difference between lasers, chemical peels, and dermabrasion - and how to determine which one is most appropriate in your case; Different techniques for facelifts and eyelid surgery, and why some work better than others; The newest procedures such as Botox and ultrasonic liposuction - are they really better than the old standards?; How to tell if you need liposuction or a tummy tuck, and what is involved in each; The facts about silicone gel breast implants and why only saline implants are now available; The truth about cellulite, thigh lifts, spider veins, age spots, permanent makeup; and just about everything else available in the cosmetic plastic surgery arena.

Much Needed Info Missing

I bought this book to find out about breast reduction. There is not one word about this surgery in this book. Very disappointed.

A Terrific Surprise

Contemplating surgery leaves you with a mess of questions. This book lays out the answers without talking down to the reader and without using any more jargon than needed.

I thought I'd know all the questions to ask a potential doctor, and how to evaluate his/her answers, but this book made me feel so more more prepared to know what I want and how to know if the doctor I'm talking to is the right one.

In the very first chapter I learned that "board certified" means zilch, that any physician is allowed to do plastic surgery (it's lucrative) without any training, and that methods of doing certain surgeries are not outlawed just because they are incredibly dangerous.

I also learned that what my mom needs was a thigh-lift, not liposuction. Who knew. I also learned about what it would cost, how it would be done, how I should prepare, and how it will feel afterwards. A really pleasant surprise to get my money's worth.

it takes more than the outside

So the tummy is now flat after the three kids. Thanks to this book I got all the information I needed to make an informed decision. But it didn't end there. I knew it would take more than a taut tummy to make me feel alive again. A friend introduced me to the Artst's Way by Cameron. I got in touch with my creativity again, (not just my children's creativity). Then being more inspired I bought singing lessons Cds, Voice Lessons To Go by Vaccarino. I recently went and did Karaoke with a large group. My husband was so impressed by my new confidence. It's important to take care of ourselves women! Here's to occasionally bearing your midriff!
