An easy read, this book will be a wake-up call to some surgeons and a valuable guide for those seeking realistic information.
From the Publisher The number of people turning to cosmetic surgery are legion, and those numbers are increasing. As baby boomers are aging, they are turning to cosmetic surgery, but so are younger people wanting to improve their looks. Cosmetic surgery is no longer the province of the wealthy. While the media focuses on stars who take advantage of these improved procedures, taking out second mortgages, paying with credit cards, saving up to make it happen, Americans in all walks of life are turning to cosmetic surgery to enhance their looks. Cosmetic surgery is no longer thought of as self-indulgent or frivolous; instead, it is considered an enhancement which can facilitate everything from better job prospects to better self-esteem. In her new book, COSMETIC SURGERY: Before, Between and After, master makeup artist Susan Gail uses her 22 years of experience working with reconstructive surgeons, dermatologists, psychiatrists and psychologists as well as her own recent foray into plastic surgery to give her readers an up-close look at the process. Honest, plain-spoken and often funny, Susan addresses everything from choosing the right doctor to post surgery sex! Endorsed by some of the best cosmetic surgeons in the country, COSMETIC SURGERY: Before, Between and After is a must-read for anyone contemplating plastic surgery.
From the Author My willingness to tell the world that I had a facelift was relevant to my future. You have to admit that most people don't go shouting from rooftops," Hey, look at me! I just got nipped and tucked!" I believe that what makes my book unique is because my 15 Steps tell you exactly what you need to know to help you get the specific results you want from your own cosmetic surgery. In these pages, you will receive some fantastic insights about cosmetic surgery as a means to an end. Written with integrity and humor, it's staight from the hip, like your best friend talking to you. After 20 years, I've seen the good, the bad, the ugly and just about everything in between. Cosmetic surgery can be a blessing. It can also be a curse. Read this book. Absorb the reality-based facts and decide for yourself. If you can do that by the end of these pages, and my goal is that you will, then we both will have succeeded. May all your angels, spiritual guides and higher beings assist you in your decision making. They certainly did in mine. You're not alone anymore!

A "MUST READ"!!As a member of the nursing profession, and as a caregiver specializing in post-cosmetic surgery recovery, I highly recommend Susan Gail's book, Cosmetic Surgery Before, Between and After. After working in the field full time for a number of years, I felt I knew just about everything there is to know about recovery from cosmetic surgery. However, after reading Susan Gail's book, I gained many new insights. Now, I highly suggest to all my clients that they read Ms. Gail's book before surgery. Susan Gail's book is full of extremely helpful and thoroughly researched information, including how to find the right surgeon, possible dangers, what exactly the surgical process entails, and how to be prepared for every aspect, psychologically and physically, before, during and after surgery. Ms. Gail is extremely honest about expectations, fears and outcomes. She is extremely brave in chronicling every aspect of her experience, including photos, from informing friends and relatives, dealing with their judgment, pre-surgery jitters, post-surgery depression and her final satisfaction with her decisions. Not only is Cosmetic Surgery, Before, Between and After thoroughly informative, Ms. Gail's humorous writing style makes her book an enjoyable, funny read. For anyone contemplating cosmetic surgery, this book is a MUST!!! Paulla Weddle, C.N.A. San Diego, California
Desperately Needed a Professional EditorI bought this book because the reviews were so glowing. The information may be valuable, however, the prose is so dense, redundant and sprinkled with new-age philosophy/silliness that I find it hard to slog through. In fact, her style is so "California" it verges on satire, like something a character from the Steve Martin/Sarah Jessica Parker "L.A. Story" would have written. There is some good information in this book and I wish this book had been accepted by a respected publisher. A professional editing job would have been able to cast out the chaff from the wheat and readers would have been spared all the distracting and self-indulgent flourishes (is it important to know how much she likes keeping a *spiral* journal using *rolling ball writer* pens?).Excellent step-by-step guideCosmetic Surgery Before, Between and After by Susan Gail is a must read if you are considering cosmetic surgery. It is loaded with valuable information that helps in the decision- making process and when interviewing surgeons. It greatly increased my effectiveness in the interviews and certainly enhanced my courage. It made an uncomfortable process as comfortable and peaceful as possible. In addition, the advice about preparing for surgery and for the post-operative time is invaluable and practical. It is an excellent step-by-step guide that walks the reader through the whole process. Not only is it thorough, but it is entertaining as well.
